So often in life, we seek to know the full process or the entire plan. Before we begin a new chapter in life, we want to know how it’s all going to play out.
As we transition in life seasons, we want to know the full picture of ‘what’s next’…
It’s a natural desire to want to know.
I was reading in Psalms the other day and came across these words that I believe remind us of how God wants us to approach this desire. We long for the full picture, but God invites us to know the ‘next step’.
As we live within the ‘next step’ principle, we remain dependent upon God. If we get the full picture, we may set off on our own, in our own effort and energy.
23 The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand. ~Psalm 37: 23-24
As we read throughout the rest of Scripture, we also see this principle of the ‘next step’ carried on. The desire to know – isn’t a bad thing. It’s natural. We need to harness our natural desire to drive our prayer life to be, “God please show me the next step. And as we take that next step (not a leap) – help me to know you’re walking alongside.”
It’s God with us, not God way behind us…
As we learn to trust God in the ‘next step’ – the rest of the journey will begin to take shape…one step at a time.
