Be Quick

Be Quick.

It seems to be the normal pace of life.

Quick to go do. Quick to read through. Quick to share our opinion. Quick to move on.

But in reading through James with my Egroup guys, we’re being reminded what the greatest tip toward ‘quickness’ is to God. James 1:19-20 says this:

19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Quick to listen.

That doesn’t seem to be the normal pace of life for many.

We often are quick to anger. Quick to feed our own internal frustration. Quick to let our temper boil and spill over. Quick to let you know how offended we are.

We often are quick to speak. Quick to launch into our opinion. Quick to stop listening to you talking, because I’m too occupied crafting my slick and whimsical response as soon as you stop to take a breath…

Quick to listen – now, that’s tough. That’s not normal. But maybe it should be our new normal…

Quick to listen to those around us. Quick to listen to the word God has planted within us and to His Spirit guiding us. Quick to listen to His Scriptures as they speak into our lives. Quick to listen and then respond, so that we’re not merely hearing his words, but listening and putting them into application and action.

Quick to listen.

I’d like that to become more of my normal pace.
