I love the Church.
Not just the church I get to serve, but THE Church.
The one entrusted to carry the message of the grace of Christ forward to each generation. The one vehicle of God’s message that He promised would never fail, but always prevail. The one enlisted to move the movement of Jesus and his love into new frontiers of the human heart across every street, city and continent.
I truly believe the Church is the hope of the watching world.
That’s why it needs to be cultivated and cared for. It needs impassioned leaders. It needs resourced in order to be a life-giving source of hope. It needs investments from people with all sorts of contributions and talents. It needs artists. It needs prayer warriors. It needs strategic thinkers. It needs people with hospitality and folks with fortitude. This movement…
It needs YOU.
Now, I know ‘the Church’ has it’s flaws, imperfections and down right giant zits, but underneath its complexion and institutional flab, the radiant glow of God’s hope still shines bright.
The church is a movement.
The church is comprised of its people, followers of Jesus who, if we’re honest, are all a ‘work in progress.’ Each one of us a new creation by faith, but a new life still under construction if you will.
People will take their shots at the church. Some are deserved and sadly accurate and others outright off target and wrong.
As followers of Jesus, we ARE the church. We embody his movement. We are the ones who are to herald the call to come home – proclaim the way for the prodigals to return to their Creator.
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. -Revelation 22:17
We are referred to as the Bride of Christ as the church and we are invited and have been launched to be a partner with God in announcing his grace and forgiveness to any and all. We’re the ones who are to set the table and put out the welcome mat.
We’re called to love, champion and invest into the movement He began. ‘The Church.’ This investment takes energy, resources, focus and commitment. There’s always a cost to investing, but this investment, God promises, comes with a guaranteed return. …for you.
So, how are you investing?
How are YOU using your gifts, talents, time, energy and resources to invest in the movement that had room for you and invites you to invite others?
Rescued people, rescue people.
Find ways to invest. Find YOUR way.
It might be for a season in this area or that arena and then it morphs into another way, but either way – find a way. In the words of a popular shoe company: Just Do It. Don’t become sidelined merely talking about it.
Every part of the family of God has a part to play in the movement of God.
The Church is the Bride of Christ, not our jr. high girlfriend. She deserves our love & devotion, not fleeting infatuation.
*for some of you, the Church has been a movement that you may feel ran you over. you got wounded or hurt. if that is so, please know that I am so sorry and wish deeply it was different or there existed a redo button for life’s past. there is none, but there is present and future promised grace that can help us now. I wish you well and I pray for healing and I invite you to see this piece as a statement of the way things should be and the contribution YOU are invited to make – to make it so. -Jack
